The public garden in Galati was founded in 1846 by Iorga Ghica and his friend Mihail Sturdza, the leader with whose help they planted over 3500 trees. The name Public Garden comes from the time when parks were called in the big cities of the country.
At the entrance, as we come from the center on Domneasca Street, towards Brates there is a roundabout in the middle of which dominates the unmistakable silhouette. of Cuza Voda sculpted by Ioan Dumitru Barlad in 1972.
To the left of this monument is the sumptuous gate, with a large opening, through which you can see the wide alleys and the wide green spaces of the Public Garden. From the street you can see the huge concrete cup decorated with mosaic of the artesian fountain of considerable size that in summer cools the air with powerful jets launched at high altitudes, built in 1964 by Nae Constantin. Smaller, larger alleys, which branch off from the main double alley, with a square in the middle, lead to the pavilion, or to the children's playground, or to the shaded benches and to the modern sculptures or busts of the great men of culture of the country, or to the outdoor gym.
The bust of George Enescu (a great composer, pianist, conductor, teacher), who often delighted the locals here with his wonderful concerts and that of IL Cragiale (writer) who can find his place in any place of relaxation, with all of which represent the artist in times lived without the ironic smile on his lips, the sculpture being inspired by the last photograph of the writer.
You will find the most spectacular view away from the park gate, passing by the artesian well, when you approach a valley that is shown to you among the huge trees at the edge, from where on a clear day, from a height of 15 -20 meters shows you Lake Brates, the Prut and the lands beyond it.
It is a perfect place for a picnic or for an evening run, a family walk or even an hour of outdoor sports.
The park can be visited all year round, during the winter the Christmas fair is organized, the park seems to wear festive clothes, the Christmas tree shines, the globes are everywhere and the smell of mulled wine and cakes amplifies the well-being! A Christmas is magical when the place is decorated and the man is happy!
